Empowering Educators: Lisa Jensen Foundation Conducts Training on Gender Equality, Mental Health, and GBV Prevention
We believe that every story of healing, awareness, and community action matters. Each update we share is part of a wider effort to normalize mental health conversations and connect people with care and support.
1. Gender Equality in the Classroom
The workshop guides teachers on how to dismantle harmful stereotypes that limit the potential of both boys and girls.
Gender-Responsive Pedagogy: Training teachers to ensure equal participation and leadership opportunities for all students.
Breaking Biases: Discussing how traditional norms can sometimes lead to lower expectations for girls, particularly in STEM subjects.
2. Mental Health Literacy
Building on our partnership with healthcare leaders like Aga Khan Health Services, this session focuses on the psychological well-being of the school community.
Early Detection: Teaching educators how to spot signs of anxiety, depression, or withdrawal in students.
Teacher Wellbeing: Acknowledging that for a teacher to support students, they must also have the tools to manage their own mental health and work-related stress.
3. Combatting Gender-Based Violence (GBV)
Schools must be safe havens. Our training provides a clear roadmap for identifying and responding to GBV.
Safe Reporting: Establishing confidential and safe "Gender Desks" or reporting channels within schools.
The "Speak Out" Culture: Empowering teachers to encourage students to voice their experiences without fear of stigma or retaliation.
Legal Awareness: Educating staff on the Tanzanian legal frameworks and referral pathways for survivors of abuse.
Impact and Transformation
By the end of the training, participating educators are not just teachers; they become Gender and Mental Health Ambassadors. They leave equipped with a "Toolkit for Change" that includes lesson plans focused on respectful relationships and emotional intelligence.
"When a teacher understands the link between a child's mental health and their environment, they don't just teach a subject—they save a life. This training is about creating a generation that grows up in equality and safety." > — Lisa Jensen, Founder
Objective: To equip teachers with the tools to identify mental health struggles, promote gender parity, and establish zero-tolerance zones for Gender-Based Violence (GBV).
Why Training Teachers Matters
Teachers are often the first to notice changes in a child’s behavior, but they frequently lack the formal training to address complex issues like trauma, discrimination, or abuse. The Lisa Jensen Foundation’s training program bridges this gap by focusing on three interconnected pillars
